Falls From Windows

The window guard law was implemented in the City of New York in 1976.   The law requires building owners to install approved window guards in the home or apartment of any family where a child younger than eleven years of age lives.  It also requires the building owner to send every tenant a notification form once a year, so that any new need for a window guard may be reported.   There are also requirements regarding the type of window guards to be used, as well as the type of screws to be used in the installation.   Shapiro Law Offices’ representation in this area includes the 3 year-old victim of a five-story fall, one of the most widely-publicized window falls in the last 25 years.
