Motor Vehicle Accidents

Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents often result in very severe injuries, or even death.   Some 80,000 people are injured, of which 4,000 die, each year in motorcycle accidents.   These numbers will continue to rise over time with the increasing popularity of motorcycles.  Approximately one-half of all motorcycle accidents which result in a fatality involve a collision with another vehicle.

Where the driver and/or the passenger of a motorcycle are injured or killed in a collision, the Insurance Law does not provide no-fault benefits to such people.   This means that these injured accident victims are not automatically entitled to payments for related medical bills and loss of earnings.   Unlike other automobile accident victims, such motorcycle accident victims are required to seek reimbursement for medical bills and all loss of earnings as part of a lawsuit.   In exchange, motorcycle accident victims (drivers and passengers) are also the only ones not required to prove that their injuries rise to the level of a “serious injury”, as defined by the Insurance Law, in order to receive compensation for pain and suffering.   Shapiro Law Offices has proven its level of expertise in this area.
